  Is it possible to import a 3D obj model inside of After Effects?

  Yes you can import it, but you have take help of Photoshop. PS CS4 extended can import obj, max and u3d formats. Import it, save it, make a psd file then import that PSD inside of After Effects. AE will use built in Live Photoshop 3D plugin.
